Q) Can windows NT exchange print jobs with a NetWare server running SDLPD?
A) Yes. Below are instructions for setting up NT for this type of job exchange.
First, configure SDLPD on your NetWare server. Make note of the TCP/IP address of the netware server.
From the NT workstation:
1) Test network connectivity. From a command prompt window run ping with the IP address (or dns hostname) of the NetWare server. Confirm the server responds correctly.
2) In the printers folder, double click on the "Add Printer" icon.
3) Select the option that specifies the printer is on "my computer" or is a local printer.
4) Click "Add Port", select "LPR Port"
5) A dialog will prompt for information about the target host. For the "name or address" enter the IP address or dns hostname of the NetWare server. For the "name of printer" field, enter the name of the print queue on the NetWare server that you wish to receive the print jobs. This queue must be configured as an incoming queue in the SDLPDCON.NLM utility.
6) The LPR port should show up in the port list, and be checked.
Windows NT will send the print job description and the username of the currently logged in user to the remote host. SDLPD will use this information in the "job description" and "banner name" field. SDLPD will also include the hostname or IP address of the NT machine in the "banner file name" field in the NetWare print job.
