| SDLPD Retry Reject Jobs |
Q) When LPR print jobs are rejected by the remote host, the job is deleted from the NetWare queue. I even have "retry rejected jobs" enabled. What is the problem?
A) When an error occurs with a print job, SDLPD calls a function that tells the server that SDLPD is aborting service for a print job. The server then re-queues the job and releases it from the print server.
If the "service-restart" flag is not set for a print job, the file server will remove the print job from the queue. SDLPD has no control over this action.
The workstation client is responsible for setting this flag. Win9x systems using the MS client drivers apparently do not set this flag. If you wish to see the status of this flag, you will need to use a tool such as our QView Pro software. Pconsole does not show the status of this flag in its' job details screen.
Once SDLPD has started servicing a print job, the file server will not let any process modify the print job's flags, so it is impossible to change the status of this flag after SDLPD starts service.
Solution: Download SDLPD v1.17 or later. This version scans the print queue and sets the "service-restart" flag on all print jobs before it begins service on any job.
