Printer Control Dialog Box

QView Pro can interact with Novell's pserver.nlm or pserver.exe. If your network is using pserver or a compatible print server, QView can display the following Printer Control Dialog.

Print Job Information This section of the dialog box shows information about the job the printer is currently printing. The Job Description is shown on the first line, followed by the print queue and file server the print job originated from. The print progress is displayed as a percentage complete, and the percentage of the current copy completed. The job number, form number, and job type (Text or Binary) is also displayed.

Printer Status This section shows the status of the printer that is printing the print job. The first line shows the printer control option and will display "printing", "paused" or "stopped." The second line will show any printer error codes such as "paper out".

Form mode This section shows the current form name and number that is mounted on the printer. Use printdef to define new form types. The way in which the printer services jobs can also be changed from this dialog box if the user running QView Pro has print server operator status. Any changes to the form mode will not be preserved when the print server is shut down. Use pconsole to make permanent changes to the form control.

Change Form... Click on this button to change the currently used form for the printer. The Change Mounted Form Dialog Box will be shown.

Stop/Start Printer Click on this button to halt printing of the current print job. The job will be purged or returned to the print queue depending on the setting of the Delete Job On Abort or Stop Printer check box. When the printer is stopped or paused, this button will change to "Start Printer." Clicking on it will allow the printer to continue servicing print jobs.

Pause Printer Click on this button to make the printer temporarily pause printing. Click on "Start Printer" to resume printing where the job was paused. This feature does not abort printing of the current job.

Abort Job Click on this button to halt printing of the current print job. The job will be purged or returned to the print queue depending on the setting of the Delete Job On Abort or Stop Printer check box. The printer will not be halted, and the first available print job in the queue will be serviced immediately. We have noticed that pserver often behaves strangely with this feature. It will stop servicing the print job but leave it marked as "in service" If this happens, the job will not be available to print until pserver is unloaded and reloaded.

Delete Job on Abort or Stop Printer Checking this option will cause the currently printing job to be removed from the queue if the Abort Job or Stop Printer button is clicked.

If the service-restart flag is not set for the print job, it will always be purged if aborted. This flag can be set in the Job details dialog. Most client software will submit jobs to the print queue with this flag set. The only exception that we have found is Win95.

Rewind Job... This option will allow a print server operator to rewind a print job. Clicking on this button will display the Rewind Print Job dialog box.
