View Job Details

QView Pro gives the ability to set many options for each individual print job. Single jobs may be selected, and job details may be shown by selecting the item in the job menu or pressing enter. Multiple jobs may not be selected for job details.

Print Job: The job number assigned to the print job by the file server when it is first placed in the queue.

Client: The NDS or Bindery name of the user who placed the job in the print queue. If a user moves a print job from one queue to another, that user name will be the owner of the new job in the target queue because that login created the print job.

Status: The current status and print progress of the print job.

File size: File size in bytes, and shorthand 5K, 1M, etc.

Entry Time: The time the print job was created in the queue. If the print job was moved from one queue to another, the time which the new job was created in the target queue will be displayed.

Form: Name and number of the print form. Use printdef.exe to create new forms. The form number is specified by the client when the job is created, and can be changed by the job owner or operator.

Description: Text description of the print job supplied by the client. Most DOS software will submit jobs as "LPT1 Catch".

Service sequence: The print job's position in the print queue. The job position in the queue can be changed by editing this field.

Number of copies: The number of copies the client has requested for this print job. This will cause the print server to service the print job once for each copy.

User Hold: When checked, the job will not print. Job owners may place a hold on their own job, or queue operators may place jobs on all jobs.

Operator Hold: When checked, the job will not print. Only queue operators may edit this option.

Suppress Form Feed: When unchecked, the print server will send a form feed character to the printer after the print job.

Notify When Done: When checked, the job owner will receive a broadcast message when the print job has been completed.

Service Auto-Start: When checked, the print data is retained in the queue if the client becomes disconnected during printing (crashes). This can be set with the /keep option for the capture.exe command.

Service Restart: If set, a print job may remain in the queue if the print server aborts the print job. If not checked, the job will always be removed from the queue when the print server aborts printing. This is true even if the print server abort command is given with "return job to queue". By default, this is checked in DOS, Win31, and Macintosh; however, Win95 clients do not seem to set this option.

Print Banner: If checked, the print server will print a page with job details before the print job.

Banner Name: The name to be shown on the banner page, if requested. This name is usually set to the name of the client that printed the job.

Header File Name: This is set to the name of the file if printed by nprint. QView will also set this if the file was printed by drag and drop into a queue from the file manager.

Banner File Name: Usually, this is the same as the Header File Name option; however, the contents print in larger text below the user name on the banner page.

Banner Directory: This is set to the name of the directory if a file is printed by nprint. QView will also set this if the directory of a file was printed by drag and drop into a queue from the file manager.

Text/Binary: Describes the content of the print job. Binary jobs are also known as "Byte Stream." Text jobs are handled differently at the print server. Tabs are expanded to white space, and pages are broken by the lines per page option below.

Tab Size: If the job is a Text job, each tab stop is expanded to this setting. The default is 8. Tab expansion is handled by the print server.

Lines per page: If the job is a Text job, the number of lines per page is specified by this option. This option is set by changing the number of lines per page for the form using printdef.exe. Line counting and page breaks are handled by the print server.

Line Length: If the job is a Text job, lines are truncated after a set number of characters. This option is set by changing the line length for the form using printdef.exe. Line truncation is handled by the print server.

Target Print Server: This option sets the name of the print server that may service the print job. The default is (Any Print Server). The client may set this option when capturing the printer port with a print job.

Defer Printing: If set, a target date and time for the job to print may be specified. If not checked, the job will print as soon as possible.

Print Date: If the option for Defer Printing is checked, the date for the print job to print is specified in MM/DD/YY. The default is set to the current date/time plus 1 day.

Print Time: If the option for Defer Printing is checked, the time for the print job to print is specified in HH:MM:SS. The default is set to the current date/time plus 1 day.

Logged by QView: When QView Pro has completed scanning the print job for offending jobs as set in the duplicate, oversize and overage menu options, this item is checked to prevent redundant checking. Checking this option while the job is loading will prevent QView from scanning the job for offending status. Unchecking the job will cause QView to re-scan the job.

Done: Closes the current dialog and returns to the queue monitor screen.

Printer: If the job is printing, you can display the Printer Control Dialog box. This feature only works if the print server supports remote SPX connections such as Novell's pserver.

View: If the print job is not loading or printing, you can have QView launch a copy of write.exe to show the content of the print job data. You can specify a different file editor by changing the FileEditor=WRITE.EXE line in the [General Options] section of the qvieww.ini file.

Save As: If the print job is not loading or printing, you can save the print job data to a file. Click on this button to display a dialog box that will prompt you for details about where to save the print job data.

Move: If the print job is not loading or printing, you can move the job to another print queue. Click on this button, and a list of queues to move the job to will be displayed in the Move/Copy Job Dialog box.

Delete: Deletes the print job. If the job is printing, QView will attempt to have the print server abort the print job. Aborting the print job at the print server only works if the print server supports remote SPX connections such as Novell's pserver.
