Duplicate Job ScanningQView Pro can help to significantly reduce your printing costs by scanning your print queues for duplicate print jobs. When a duplicate is found, you can have QView Pro automatically remove it from the queue and notify the job owner that they should not print duplicate jobs. Duplicate Job Criteria: This section of the dialog box allows you to select the criteria used to check to find duplicates. The following are the individual settings for defining what a duplicate job is. Connection Number Match: When this item is checked, the connection number of the workstations that submitted the print jobs must match for the print jobs to be considered duplicates. This helps screen out jobs where multiple workstations log in with the same login name. Client Name Match: The client name is the object ID that created the print job. If a QView Operator moves a job from one queue to another, the new job in the queue will have the operator's client name and ID rather than the original owner of the print job. The banner name is preserved however. If your site moves print jobs frequently, you may want to disable this option. Banner Name Match: The banner name is the name provided by the client when the print job is submitted, or the print queue is captured to an LPT port. Use CRC Check: Using a CRC check will help when using software that creates bitmap images for the printer. Enabling this option will cause QView Pro to do a full CRC check on each print job and store the results to locate jobs that have the same file size and are not actual duplicates. This feature causes a significant amount of network traffic because it downloads the entire data file for each print job in the queue. It will also cause QView Pro to pause from time to time as it is calculating the CRC for a print job. File Size Match: This feature will check to see if the file size of the print job matches within the File Size Match Tolerance setting below. When disabled, any job from the same client is considered a duplicate. File Size Match Tolerance: With this option, you can set a range for matching by file size. For example, you can scan for jobs that are within +-5% of the file size of the offending job. This will catch jobs that are similar in size but not exact. The default setting is +-0. History Time for Comparison: QView Pro will retain a list of jobs printed in memory for a specific period of time after the job has been scanned for offenses. This option allows you to configure the period of time used for duplicate scanning. If the job remains in the queue for a longer period of time than the History Time setting, QView will not consider the job for duplicate comparison. Notify User: When a duplicate is found, this feature sends a message to the user telling them their duplicate print job was found. Nag Message: When enabled, this option will send a second message to the owner of duplicate print jobs reminding them not to print multiple copies. The message is also configurable in the text box below. Report Action To: When a duplicate job is found, a message is sent to the user or group specified in the message target field below. Click on the set button to select a user or group. Action Performed: QView can handle duplicate print jobs in several ways. Select the action performed from this list of options. The schedule and delay times are set in the Queue Control Options dialog box. The Move to: target is set in the Auto Move Options dialog box. Queue Windows: This list box shows a list of all open print queue windows. You may select single or multiple items in this list to change the operation of one or more queue windows. The (Default Settings) item controls the settings that new windows will be opened with. Apply>> Click on this button to update the settings of each selected queue window in the Queue Windows listbox. Multiple queue windows may be selected. Changing settings for (Default Settings) will affect any new queue windows that are opened. |
